Egg freezing
Egg freezing, or oocyte cryopreservation, is a cutting-edge fertility preservation option offered at Dr. Abdul Basith’s clinic for women who wish to delay motherhood or who face medical treatments that may affect their fertility, such as cancer therapy. Egg freezing allows women to store their eggs at a younger, healthier age, ensuring the possibility of a successful pregnancy in the future when they are ready to start a family.
The egg-freezing process begins with ovarian stimulation, during which hormonal medications are used to stimulate the ovaries to produce multiple eggs. Once the eggs are mature, they are retrieved through a minimally invasive procedure. The eggs are then frozen using vitrification, an advanced cryopreservation technique that prevents the formation of ice crystals, ensuring better survival rates when the eggs are thawed in the future.
Egg freezing is particularly beneficial for women who wish to delay pregnancy due to personal or professional reasons, as well as for those with conditions like endometriosis, which may affect ovarian reserve over time. It is also an important option for women undergoing chemotherapy or radiation therapy, which can compromise ovarian function.
When the woman is ready to use her frozen eggs, they are thawed and fertilised through IVF, either using her partner’s sperm or donor sperm. The fertilised eggs develop into embryos, which are then transferred into the uterus to achieve pregnancy.
