Laparoscopic oophorectomy
Laparoscopic oophorectomy is a minimally invasive procedure used to remove one or both ovaries. This surgery may be necessary for women with ovarian cysts, endometriosis, ovarian torsion, or as a preventive measure for those at high risk of ovarian cancer. At Dr. Abdul Basith’s clinic, laparoscopic oophorectomy is performed using the latest techniques, offering patients a less invasive option with minimal recovery time.
The procedure involves making small incisions in the abdomen, through which a laparoscope (a thin tube with a camera) is inserted. This allows Dr. Basith to carefully visualise the ovaries and surrounding structures. Specialised instruments are then used to remove the affected ovary or ovaries, while preserving healthy tissue where possible.
Laparoscopic oophorectomy is commonly recommended for women with large or painful ovarian cysts that do not respond to medical treatment. It is also an option for women with severe endometriosis, where the ovaries may be affected by the condition. In cases of ovarian torsion, where the ovary twists and cuts off its blood supply, urgent removal may be required to prevent complications. Additionally, women at high risk for ovarian cancer, due to genetic factors, may choose to have an oophorectomy as a preventive measure.
The minimally invasive nature of the procedure results in less post-operative pain, minimal scarring, and a quicker return to daily activities. With his expertise in laparoscopic surgery, Dr. Basith provides an effective solution for women facing ovarian health issues.
