Hysteroscopic Polypectomy for Uterine Polyps

Hysteroscopic polypectomy is a surgical procedure used to remove polyps from the uterine lining, which may be associated with abnormal uterine bleeding or reproductive evaluation. Uterine polyps are localized, typically benign growths on the inner lining of the uterus (endometrium). While usually non-cancerous, polyps may present with symptoms such as irregular bleeding, spotting between cycles, or subfertility. Hysteroscopic removal allows direct visualization and targeted excision of polyps without abdominal incisions.

The procedure is performed using a hysteroscope—a thin optical instrument inserted through the cervix into the uterine cavity. Specialized micro-instruments are passed through the channel to excise the polyp tissue. Hysteroscopic polypectomy is an outpatient procedure, enabling patients to return home on the same day.

Hysteroscopic polypectomy is indicated for individuals experiencing symptoms associated with endometrial polyps or where uterine factor subfertility is suspected. By removing intracavitary lesions, the natural structure of the uterine cavity is evaluated and addressed based on clinical findings.
