Laparoscopic ovarian drilling
Laparoscopic ovarian drilling (LOD) is a minimally invasive surgical procedure primarily used to treat women with polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS) who have not responded to fertility medications. At Dr. Abdul Basith’s clinic, laparoscopic ovarian drilling is offered as an effective treatment option to restore normal ovulation in women with PCOS, thereby improving their chances of conceiving naturally.
Women with PCOS often experience irregular or absent ovulation, which can make it difficult to become pregnant. LOD involves making small incisions in the abdomen and using a laparoscope (a thin tube with a camera) to guide the procedure. Dr Basith then makes tiny punctures in the ovaries using a laser or fine needle. This process reduces the amount of androgen (male hormones) produced by the ovaries, which is believed to contribute to the hormonal imbalance in women with PCOS. As a result, ovarian function improves, allowing for more regular ovulation.
Laparoscopic ovarian drilling is considered a second-line treatment for women with PCOS who have not responded to ovulation induction medications like Clomiphene Citrate or Metformin. The procedure is performed under general anaesthesia and usually takes less than an hour. Recovery is relatively quick, and most women can return to their daily activities within a few days.
Dr Abdul Basith ensures that each patient receives personalized care throughout the procedure, carefully monitoring their progress during the recovery phase. LOD has proven to be a successful treatment option for restoring fertility in many women with PCOS, offering a chance to conceive naturally without the need for more invasive fertility treatments.
