IUI

Intrauterine Insemination (IUI) is a fertility treatment in which sperm is directly placed into a woman’s uterus at the time of ovulation, increasing the chances of fertilisation. At Dr. Abdul Basith’s clinic, IUI is a simple and cost-effective option for couples facing mild infertility issues, unexplained infertility, or for those using donor sperm.

The process begins with tracking the woman’s ovulation cycle, which may involve hormonal medications to stimulate the ovaries and ensure timely egg release. Once ovulation is confirmed, a sample of sperm, either from the male partner or a donor, is prepared and washed to improve sperm quality by removing seminal fluid and concentrating the healthiest sperm. The prepared sperm is then inserted into the uterus using a thin catheter, bypassing the cervix to bring the sperm closer to the egg.

IUI is a non-invasive and relatively quick procedure, typically performed in the clinic without the need for anaesthesia. It is often recommended as a first-line treatment for women with mild ovulation disorders, mild male factor infertility (such as low sperm motility), or unexplained infertility. It is also a good option for single women or same-sex couples using donor sperm.

At Dr. Abdul Basith’s clinic, patients are carefully monitored throughout the IUI process to optimise timing and increase the chances of success. IUI can be performed over several cycles if necessary, with each cycle offering a higher chance of pregnancy. This treatment provides a less complex alternative to IVF and is often the next step for couples who have not had success with natural conception.
